Thanks for checking it out - this appears to be a Planet bug though?
The individual feeds verify (just about) OK:

Also we are only using a minimally modified version of 
examples/rss20.xml on Planet Gentoo.

By the "buggy/weird feeds" comment I was referring to how Planet was 
repeatedly republishing content from peoples weblogs, specifically 
Serendipity users. There is a bit more info at 
http://bugs.gentoo.org/128895 if you are interested, but remember this 
was using a really old planet snapshot, fingers crossed it is fixed now...
